Darvin Ham Introduced as New Los Angeles Lakers Head Coach

Longtime NBA Assistant Takes Over After First-Round Exit

Injury Issues Hindered Lakers' Progress, Ham Says

Longtime NBA assistant Darvin Ham was introduced as the Los Angeles Lakers' new head coach on Monday, with point guard Russell Westbrook in attendance. Ham, who has no prior head coaching experience in the NBA, takes over a team that was eliminated in the first round of the playoffs after a disappointing season.

Ham, who was an assistant coach with the Milwaukee Bucks last season, said that injury issues kept the Lakers from reaching their goals. The Lakers were without Anthony Davis for much of the season due to a foot injury, and LeBron James also missed a significant number of games due to an ankle injury. Ham said that the team's lack of continuity was a major factor in their struggles.

"We had a lot of injuries this year, and it's tough to win when you don't have your best players on the court," Ham said. "But I'm confident that we can be a contender next season if we can stay healthy."

Ham also addressed the team's roster, which includes Westbrook, James, and Davis. Ham said that he is excited to work with the three stars and that he believes they can win a championship together.

"These are three of the best players in the world, and I'm confident that we can win a championship with them," Ham said. "We just need to stay healthy and put in the work."
