Lakers Fire Head Coach Darvin Ham After Two Seasons

Less Than Two Years After James Praised Him

The Los Angeles Lakers have fired head coach Darvin Ham after just two seasons in charge of the team, the Lakers announced Friday morning. Ham was hired on June 3, 2022, to replace Frank Vogel following a 33-49 record in 2021-22. Ham went 90-74 during the regular season and 11-12 in the postseason, including two play-ins.

The Lakers' decision to fire Ham comes as a surprise, as he was considered one of the bright young coaches in the NBA. He was praised by LeBron James when he was hired, and he led the Lakers to a 27-win improvement in his first season.

However, the Lakers struggled to meet expectations in Ham's second season, finishing with a 30-52 record and missing the playoffs. The team also dealt with injuries to Anthony Davis and James, which limited their availability.

According to ESPN, the Lakers are already considering potential replacements for Ham, including Mark Jackson, Mike D'Antoni, and Kenny Atkinson.
